Tod's AD - Gwyneth draped in real fur

Tod

….of real concern to consumers that is….

Paltrow claims to have said someone draped the fur over her shoulders and she assumed it was fake.

I don’t think anti-fur campaigners would be as critical of Gwyneth if she were not the very vocal proponent of eco-friendly living — or at least that’s the image she projects. But really, is there any excuse for ANY one to wear fur when there are so many, many alternatives?!

 Some related gossip:

It’s rumored that Gwyneth and  husband Chris Martin are vegetarian, however lately there’s been confusion in the blogosphere after Gwyneth enthusiastically discusses in her GOOP newsletter cooking and eating Thanksgiving turkey. Gwyneth is quoted as saying on the Oprah show the following:

“I don’t eat four-legged animals, but I eat birds, I eat cheese, I eat dessert,” she says. “I eat everything.”

Well, glad that’s settled!

Follow Your Heart

November 5, 2008

Follow Your Heart “Vegenaise” is one of the best vegan products out there! The grapeseed oil vegenaise is my favorite and it’s so much healthier than regular ol’ mayo. It’s eggless, dairy free, gluten free, wheat free, non-GMO and has no cholesterol.

The company that manufactures vegenaise, Earth Island, uses SOLAR energy to power their plant!! How cool is that?!

Ode to Vegans

October 24, 2008

Hey, vegans! Stop by Ode Magazine online and check out the vegan community. Ode is a thoroughly unique & “positive” publication (I used to subscribe back in my magazine junkie days).

Vegan Community on Ode http://www.odemagazine.com/groups/vegans

More about Ode from their website:

Ode is a print and online publication about positive news, about the people and ideas that are changing our world for the better.

Ode was founded in the spring of 1995 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands by Jurriaan Kamp and Helene de Puy. Kamp, a former editor and correspondent with the leading Dutch daily NRC Handelsblad, and de Puy wanted to create an alternative to mainstream publications, a magazine that was open to new inspirations and new visions from around the world. The cover of the first issue – a close-up image of a radiant woman laughing out loud – captured the joy and spontaneity they wanted Ode to embody.

For the first nine years of its existence, Ode was published in Dutch. But in the summer of 2004 Kamp and de Puy, who are partners in marriage as well as in publishing, moved to the San Francisco Bay Area to launch the English-language edition of the magazine. Ode now appears ten times a year in both English and Dutch, with a worldwide circulation of more than 100,000. Over the past 12 years, Ode has helped make the ‘alternative’ media space more mainstream. The magazine profiled people like clown-doctor Patch Adams, guru Deepak Chopra and Dr. Andrew Weil long before more conventional publications made them household names.

During this time, Ode also built a community of readers who are passionate about the magazine and the issues for which it stands: positive social, environmental and economic change. Because these readers have a lot to say for themselves – and to each other- Ode created a new website that allows them to communicate, socialize and contribute to Ode. Odemagazine.com’s mix of print and online journalism with user-generated content and social networking makes it unique on the Web.

In print and online, Ode’s aim is to bring a new reality into view, to explore opportunities for positive change in our daily lives and our daily minds.

Paul McCartney seems to have such an easy-going, non-confrontational approach to vegetarianism and this attitude seems to have influenced his new “lady friend,” Nancy Shevell. The dailymail.co.uk reports that Ms. Shevell has given up eating steak and is now vegetarian.

Leona Lewis

October 10, 2008

contactmusic.com reports the following about vegetarian Leona Lewis:

Vegetarian pop sensation LEONA LEWIS turned down a $1.85 million (GBP1 million) offer to open the summer (08) sale at London department store Harrods – because it sells fur.
The Bleeding Love hitmaker, who gave up meat when she was 12 years old, refused to accept the lucrative deal from Harrods owner Mohammed Al Fayed, because she doesn’t want to be associated with any store or brand that appears to promote the use of fur.

Do you think Joseph Petcka (pictured below) should serve prison time if convicted of animal cruetly? Take the NY Dail News Poll

Warning: Some of the details in the story are disturbing.

“He lunged, throwing me on my butt, on the coffee table,” Petcka testified under cross-examination from Assistant District Attorney Leila Kermani.

“Did you feel threatened?” Kermani asked.

“Yes,” he replied.

Petcka, who also appeared on “Sex and the City,” said he unleashed a half-dozen bicycle kicks at the kitty – which bit him once again on the knuckle of his right thumb. He was unsure if any of the kicks landed.
